Joe Williams Reflects on Return and Optimism at Bristol City

Midfielder Joe Williams, who has been away from Bristol City due to injury for over a year, has returned to the team after a year-long injury layoff. Williams, who has been away from the pitch due to a ligament injury sustained during the play-offs against Sheffield United, is eager to contribute to the team's success under new manager Michael Skubala.

Williams' return comes at a time when the club is undergoing significant changes. The departure of several key players and the arrival of new signings and a new manager have created a fresh atmosphere at the club. Williams, who has been at the club for many years, is optimistic about the future and the direction the club is taking.

"I've worked so hard to get back, and I want to repay my teammates and the staff with performances on the pitch," Williams stated. "I feel really fit and strong now, and it's the best I've felt in a long time. The lads and staff have been brilliant around me, and I'm really excited about the new players and the new manager's vision for the team.

Williams' return coincided with the club's first match of the season against Millwall. Despite the team's 2-0 defeat, Williams expressed his disappointment and a desire to improve. 'We all hate losing, and we're gutted down there,' he said. 'The circumstances were tough with 10 men for the first game of the season, but we showed some good signs and looked like we were about to get into the game. Next week's a good opportunity for us to put it right.'

The midfielder also praised the new manager, Michael Skubala, and his staff. 'I've been really impressed by him and his staff. They're really clear in their messaging and want to play fast, forward, and attacking football. I'm really optimistic and happy with what the staff have brought to the squad.'

Williams' return to the pitch could provide an opportunity for him to make his first competitive start since the play-off semi-final against Sheffield United. With teammate Adam Randell suspended, Williams may be in contention for a starting role in the upcoming match against Birmingham City, where his former teammate Max Bird now plays.

Williams is eager to contribute to the team's success and believes that the new signings and the club's ambition will help the team achieve its goals. 'We need a big performance next Saturday,' he said. 'We just need to get going, dust ourselves down, and go again next Saturday.'
