Bristol City U21s started their Professional Development League campaign with an entertaining 2-2 draw against Wigan Athletic, thanks to a brace from Excellent Ikpeama.
The Young Robins forward scored twice in the first half at Ashton Gate on Tuesday afternoon, but goals from Latics youngsters Elijah Igiehon and Henry Miller ensured that the visitors would come from behind to claim a valuable point.
Igiehon latched onto a bouncing ball late in the first-half to reduce the deficit before the interval, before Miller did something similar shortly after the restart to set up an interesting second period in south Bristol.
While it was the Robins who came closest to a winner, their afternoon was made more challenging when captain Ruebin Sheppard was shown a second-yellow card midway through the second-half, leaving City with 10 players for the closing exchanges.
Ultimately, Tuesday’s draw sees Louis Carey continue his unbeaten start as head coach of the Reds’ Under-21s, after his appointment earlier this summer.
