Bristol City's Sinclair Armstrong has left the club after two years, completing a permanent transfer to Göztepe. The Ireland international departs with seven goals in 83 appearances. Armstrong joined the Robins from Queens Park Rangers two summers ago, but was never able to realise his potential on a consistent basis in red and white. Despite this, the majority of supporters remained behind Armstrong, with his chant regularly audible inside BS3 whenever he was introduced as a substitute. Armstrong has thanked the fanbase, and many others associated with the club, following his exit. Posting on his Instagram story, Armstrong wrote: 'Bristol City, thank you. I want to start off by saying that I am very grateful to have played for this football club. From the first day I walked in, everyone made me feel so welcome. To the City fans, thank you for putting up with me time and time again. I'm very thankful for the support during the ups and downs. To everyone associated with Bristol City, thank you. I wish the club nothing but the best. #UpTheCity.' With his move to Göztepe, Armstrong is the first senior player to depart City this summer. The Reds confirmed last week that Michael Skubala had put pen to paper on a three-year deal at Ashton Gate to succeed Roy Hodgson in the dugout, just weeks after he guided Lincoln City to the League One title and promotion to the Championship. As manager, the 43-year-old will work closely with James Ellis, the Robins' new sporting director. City confirmed last month that Ellis would be the man to fill their new sporting director vacancy. In time, Ellis will be responsible for adding to the squad, but naturally, a lot of his focus currently is directed towards the summer transfer window. It is clear that the Robins need reinforcements in a number of areas, goalkeeper and striker chief among them in the eyes of supporters. Skubala, Ellis and the rest of the hierarchy at the High Performance Centre can begin adding to their squad when the window opens later this month. Decisions still also have to be confirmed over the long-term futures of Mark Sykes, Sam Bell, Sam Morsy and Harry Cornick. All four players are out of contract this summer, and when the Reds published their retained list a fortnight ago, they suggested talks would continue following the appointment of a new head coach. With Skubala officially starting work on Tuesday, June 9, such decisions may be made in the coming days.
