Bristol City's ongoing search for a permanent head coach has seen Portsmouth boss John Mousinho address recent speculation linking him to the Championship club. The 39-year-old, who guided Pompey to the League One title in 2024, stated he is not "desperate" to leave his current role, despite being flattered by the rumoured interest from Ashton Gate.

Speaking to BBC Radio Solent, Mousinho emphasized his commitment to Portsmouth. "I'm not currently in a situation where I'm desperate to leave the football club and I stick by what I said on Saturday - I love the club and love the support I've had from day one," he explained. He also clarified his honesty with fans, preferring an open approach over definitive statements about staying "forever."

Mousinho affirmed his full focus remains on Portsmouth, particularly with crucial talks scheduled over the next few days involving players, agents, and owners to plan for the upcoming campaign. He also highlighted the club's upcoming Championship season finale against Birmingham City, reinforcing his immediate priorities at Fratton Park.

Bristol City, currently 13th in the Championship table, are actively seeking a permanent replacement for former head coach Gerhard Struber, who was sacked in March. While former England boss Roy Hodgson has overseen the final seven games of the season, he has made it clear he will not be taking on the Robins' job full-time, leaving the position open.

The Portsmouth manager acknowledged the positive aspect of the rumoured interest, viewing it as a compliment to both himself and the work done at Fratton Park. However, he confirmed that there has been no direct contact with Bristol City, nor has the Championship club made an official approach to Portsmouth. "If there is interest, it's on their side; I haven't spoken to Bristol City and they haven't made an approach to the football club, so at this stage it's just that," Mousinho clarified.

Bristol City currently sit five places and five points ahead of Portsmouth in the Championship standings. Both clubs conclude their Championship seasons on Saturday, with Portsmouth hosting Birmingham City at 12:30 BST, while the Robins will welcome Stoke City to Ashton Gate.
